Love Notes In The Making: Note #3

We are in the final stretch! May the stress and anxiety levels raise through the roof!

The inevitable end of summer marks time. For 3 consecutive months, this album has been incubated in my home, in the studio, has grown with the help of friends, and the support of family and community. Anna Mancl (Cello/Piano/Vocals) and Drew O’Niell (Viola/Trumpet/Professional Whistler) have helped make this music come to life, and I couldn’t be more grateful to them! We all set aside time this summer to make this album, and it’s been a really special experience. As summer ends, my time with my dear friends also runs out.

Getting to work with Anna and Drew on this has been the best thing – these two are heroes, working hard to make this music so much more than I could have ever imagined. We had a really fun recording day, and have set up another – just a week away!

The Kickstarter was very successful! It’s so wonderful and such a unique feeling to see that all of these people believe in me, likely more than I believe in myself! The stakes are high, and I don’t want to disappoint.

The end of summer also poses a lot of questions. Will this album really be in its completion in the fall? How will it be released? How do I make the best possible entrance in the music scene? Can I afford everything? What is the point?

The recent shootings in El Paso, Dayton, and Lawndale, the ridiculously sexist legislation on abortion and women’s health, the camps at the border, and the omnipresent knowledge that we are trashing our planet and will ultimately become our own destruction – all of these things have not gone unnoticed, and have weighed heavily on me. And yet I have chosen to devote my time and money into making music. It makes me feel helpless and a little selfish.

This album better be worth it.

I am so grateful to have the privilege, the resources, and the support to create something so vastly personal. Though I definitely have moments of deep sadness thinking about the world we live in, I am also reminded by many around me of the beauty and the art and the love that also exists. I am lucky to be a part of this artistic community, to add my voice to this mix of amazing human souls crying out for love, for kindness.

Grateful. Always grateful.

Love Notes in the Making: Note #2

What a whirlwind of a month!

Since going into the studio for the first time I have;

  1. Launched, met, and surpassed my Kickstarter goal of $500 – We are at $601!
  2. Added harmonies to the original takes
  3. Planned a fully booked Couch Tour, filling up all of July and August – May go into September!
  4. Kicked off the first Couch Tour Show at my apartment
  5. Run out of stickers and reordered them to the wrong address but somehow magically still got stickers
  6. And have fallen completely in love with all of the crazy support I’ve been receiving from you guys!

There is so much to be thankful for, and this still feels like the beginning. I am so excited for the next two months of playing on people’s couches, and excited to meet so many beautiful souls!

As a thank you to everyone who has thus far contributed to the Kickstarter, I will be releasing a secret song – Apartment. This is a song that I may (or may not!) play live as I go through the Couch Tour, and has been requested to be released as a single! As this song does not entirely fit the mood I’m going for with Love Notes, I think it fair to release it as a secret single. Want access to the song? Any contribution, (even 50 cents!) will guarantee you a free download of the song! There are 30 Days Left!

Coming up, there is much for me to learn and keep up with, and as new developments occur, I will keep you posted! Want even more? Join my email newsletter! Simply message me via my booking page with your email, come to a show and sign up in person, or privately message me on any social media (fb, instagram).

Until next time!

Couch Tour 2019: FAQ

Summer is right around the corner, and with that, my first ever Couch Tour!!

What does this mean?

This means that instead of you coming to a show, I come to you!

This is a great opportunity to create a night of fun, friends, and music ❤ Plus. you’ll get to hear what’s on my debut record Love Notes before it’s released!

How this works:

  1. Contact me
  2. Set a Date
  3. Iron out the details

Contacting me: you can shoot me a message via my booking page, or send me an email at sunflowersummit.music@gmail.com

I hope to fill up my Fridays in July and August, potentially September! Some July and August dates have already been reserved, so please contact me with your availability/possible dates sooner rather than later.

Now – Ironing Out The Details! Here are some common questions I’ve been receiving – but before diving in, I want to make clear that this is your home, so therefore you have much more power than you think you do 🙂

What Kind of Event is This?

This event is whatever you’d like it to be; I simply will provide some fresh tunes for you! It can be a party just cuz, a birthday, a theme, a bbq, a holiday, a send-off -sky’s the limit. I do not bring with me a particular theme or mission other than to share what’s coming up with my debut record, Love Notes.

Who Do I Invite?/How many people will you bring?

Since it is your home, you have a better sense of space and what you can accommodate for. It can be big or small. You have full control over who you want to invite, and how many people you want to invite. If you’d like me to invite some pals, I can do so, but only at your discretion, and you will set the number of guests I can invite.

Do I Pay You?/Do You Pay Me?

I’m not doing this for the money, but rather for the chance to connect with individuals over the music I’m so passionate about and can’t wait for you to hear! However, we can set out a tip jar to pass around/split down the middle, or charge a donation/cover fee (also split down the middle) if you would like to be compensated monetarily for your time, commitment, and use of your home. Any money I earn via this couch tour flows right back into the creation of Love Notes, to cover studio time, paying musicians, physical/digital distribution of the record, and merch.

Will you Bring Merch?

At the moment, no, since I don’t currently have any merch to bring other than free stickers! However if I do get some merch to share, the decision on whether or not I bring it is yours; I will not sell anything in your home if that makes you uncomfortable!

What about Food and Drink?

You can choose whether or not to provide any. I will not be bringing food or drink with me, nor will I be encouraging guests to bring any without your permission. To have food or drink can depend on the kind of event you want to create, such as a party with snack or just drinks or a byob thing or a potluck.

How Long Will You Play?

I can play a 25-30 minute set, or a 45-60 minute set. It really depends on how long you’d like to hear me for 🙂

Will there be other entertainment/Can I play with you?

If you’d like to bring in some more local talent, I can definitely find one or two more artists to fill the night! If you are an artist yourself, PLEASE play with me! I’d love to experience your work too ❤

What do you get out of Giving me, the host, so much control over the event?

The opportunity to make some sweet memories, connections, and music with new people! There is nothing I love more than playing live music for beautiful humans!

Those are the most hard-hitting questions at the moment, and I will be updating the document as more questions arise. I am very excited to kick off in July! Creating this record is a journey and experience that is very special to me and I want to share it with you ❤ Thank you for reading, and talk soon!

Love Notes in the Making: Note #1

I am less then seven days from stepping into the studio to record the first sounds of my debut record, Love Notes, and I am a chex mix bowl of emotions.

Recording my own album has been a huge dream of mine ever since I could remember. Because I’ve wanted this for so long, I keep over thinking it – the set list changes constantly, the ideas of how I want it to sound build up and scale down. My mind is raving, trying to figure out if I’m doing enough or if there’s more that I should be doing to make this album what it should be.

And then the thought hits – what is this record, really? I have a theme – am I sticking to it? And then the song selection starts all over again. I usually end up with the same list I started with.

All of this to say – this is f*cking exciting! And Terrifying, and exhilarating, and perfectly insanely normal. It feels so good to finally push myself to follow my heart, and to be able to share this experience with you!

To get the record spinning, I have come up with two (sort of clever) plans. Number 1: A Kickstarter! I am aiming to raise $500. This money will be used to pay for studio time, pay my fellow musicians who are putting in their time, effort, and love into making this record with me, and to pay for digital and physical distribution of the record. Anything beyond the $500 will go towards making merch!

And Number 2 – my favorite and what I might even be more excited about than creating this record – A Couch Tour!

Basically what this means is instead of playing in venues, I want to play on your couch. Or patio. Or kitchen table. Anywhere you will have me. We will work together on getting a few good folk in, and create whatever kind of event you’d like – big, small, medium, and everything in between. I’m really passionate about sharing my music in an intimate setting that facilitates connecting with listeners and experiencing the music together, and I do believe this is the perfect setting for it. If you are interested in hosting, please contact me via my booking page!

Wellp, that’s all for now! Keep your ears out for updates ❤ Thank you for reading and supporting, it means the world to me!
